More than I expected.....

The Simpsons: The Complete Fifth Season

"Mmm...64 slices of American Cheese" Homer's midnight snack
The Simpsons DVD sets so far have been jam-packed with extras, commentaries, and creative menu pages, which may be the reason the seasons are fairly slow in coming out. I am getting a bit antsy because the next 7 seasons or so are so great, but good things come to those who wait. Season five has some of my favorite episodes. Some were pretty rare to see in syndication and now almost impossible to see as the current reruns seem to concentrate on the later seasons. Here are my season five highlights:

"Homer's Barbershop Quartet" with an appearance by George Harrison. This parody of the Beatles is very clever, especially Barney's girlfriend, "the Japanese conceptual artist."

"Rosebud" is in my top 10 Simpsons episodes ever. Mr. Burns is obsessed with finding his boyhood teddy bear Bobo. It is one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. The best part is when Smithers dresses like Bobo to try to, uh, cheer up Burns.

"Bart's Inner Child": Self-help guru Brad Goodman is impressed...

Whoo-hoo!
Seems like Fox Studio is getting faster at pumping these DVDs out. The fifth season might be where the simpsons jumped the shark pit, but I'll leave that discussion to the ubernerds. The fifth season includes the following episodes:

Homer's Barbershop Quartet: While looking through old records, the kids discover their dad was in a barbershop quartet. Guest appearnce by George Harrison.

Cape Feare [sic]: Side show bob is out to kill Bart and the family is put in the witness relocation program. Includes the famous "hello Mr. Thompson" scene.

Homer Goes to College: After a nuclear plant inspection, Homer has to go to college. The episode is a send up of popular college movies of the 80's (e.g. Revenge of the nerds or animal house). Homer falls in with the nerd crowd.

Rosebud: In a long turn of events, Mr. Burn's childhood teddy bear ends up in Maggie's hands. Burns and Homer negotiate for the return of the bear. Special guests: the...

This is the season I've been wating YEARS for.
Finally! A great holiday gift for myself. This is the Simpsons at their peak. Seasons 4, 5, and 6 were the prime of this series. There have been great shows since, but this period was consistantly the smartest, funniest, fastest paced era of the Simpsons, and I consider season 5 to be the master piece. In my opinion, 5 of the top 10 episodes of all time, are in this set. The Beatles parady set to early 80's Barbershop quartet. Deep Space Homer's Classic 2001 Homage with the potato chips. Homer improvising dinner for the kids while Marge is out gambling. The Animated Open to "The Tompson" in Cape Fear. And perhaps the greatest episode of all time, The Citizen Cane Parody with "Bobo."

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

To each his/her own....
There are a lot of harsh words being said here and elsewhere about this movie, so I thought I'd put in my two cents worth. When viewing a movie like this, that is obviously made for young children please keep in mind it is primarily for their entertainment. Most adults aren't going to find it terribly exciting.
I took my son to see it, and while it would not have been my first choice of movie, he loved it, and his enjoyment made it fun for me as well. If you have a child who already loves the Chipmunks, this will probaby be right up their alley. Lots of upbeat, chirpy songs, plenty of action. Alvin is his usual mischevious self, though in the course of the story he does find that he can be the responsible one when he needs to be. Silly jokes and humor, certainly. Some warm fuzzy moments as well (no pun intended). Have a Chipmunk fan in your house? It's worth seeing. My son can't wait to get his own dvd copy.

Rated 5 because I grew up with the chipmunks and love I them so much.
This Movie is awesome I love seeing the chipmunks one of my favorite films of all time. They should keep making them I will see all of them. I'm proud to say I'm 24 years old and I will go to a chipmunk film any day. I get really offended when I see that this is for small children. What about the people who grew up with them huh. Tough guy's I see that's what it is. They don't want to loose their dignity or is it shameful to like a children's film. Well who ever said it was a children's film. It's all those rated R films that gets you all "eww" I don't like this. Well I'm the kind of person that it don't matter what anyone says to me.

I love these kind of films. I love animated and voice over characters. Above all my favorite chipmunk is Simon. So cute. then it goes Alvin. You people that do the voice overs are awesome for continuing to do so. Matthew Grey Gubbler, Jesse McCartney, Justin Long, Amy Poehler, Anna Faris, and Christina Applegate. You guys also...

Great Home Experience
I purchased the video on Amazon via my new roku. I loved the convience of being able to make the purchase instantly from my home and to view it on the spot without having to run out to the video store. The kids loved the movie. I will definitely make another purchase and recome to friends as well.

Futurama: The Complete Series

Boooooo Wendy Testaburger. Boooo, BOOOOO.
First, let me say that I love this show. To the show, I would give it a rating of 4.5. This review is for the way the set is set up.

What in the hell is this? I was excited to get my set today. I opened it up and saw the things that held the DVDs. I knew I was in trouble. It is so cheaply made. You pull the thing holding the DVDs out and the freaking discs either fall out and roll all over the place, or they are so stuck in the thing you have to pry them out. Volumes 1 - 5 and The Beast with a Billion Backs have discs that are so badly damaged, that even after running them through a disc cleaner multiple times, they are still damaged. This is one of the cheapest sets I have ever seen. I got it from Familyvideo. I hope they let me get another set and still keep the one I have so that I can swap the discs. If not, I am just going to send this cheap piece of junk back. To anyone who gets this. Check each disc.

Love this show, but this product sucks.
This product is terrible for DVDs. The cases are made cardstock paper which use slits to hold the discs. This scratchs the discs each time you pull them out and place them back in. This would be a great solution for Blu-Ray, since they don't scratch, but as these are DVDs which can be scratched by anything short of air this is a complete waste of money until the BD versions emerge. Not to mention the first 4 seasons still have the terrible navigation system from the past release and no play all feature has been added for the first 2 seasons to at least help.

Looks cool on the outside, Cheap and flimsy on the inside.
Let me start off by saying the box is amazing, looks really cool. However once you slide out the cover you are left with the box and all the season and movies in their individual own CARDBOARD cases - whilst the designs on them look cool, the actual dvd cardboard cases are flimsy and cheap looking. What's even weirder is that two of my cases are damaged, one of the movie cases is squashed (this is what happens when you make the cases out of a weak material) and the other looks like its recived wear and tear, as in it looks like its been banged around a bit. Yet the large out box, has no damage to it at all, so it was damaged before it was put into the box). All the season's look like the updated released versions so they aren't anything new, or special for this new release, which is dissapointing. The actual discs are in stupid slots that make it hard to get the discs out, and I can tell that taking them out on multiple occasions will cause them to get scratched easily. The menu's are...
